Let’s look at how to get motivated to change our lives for the better, and even better, how to stay motivated.
As humans, we all go through bouts of being super motivated to having absolutely no motivation at all.
It takes practice and strength to stay motivated all the time, especially when things don’t always go as planned. We are conditioned to be really motivated when things are going well and then we lose motivation when things are looking bad.
What Motivates You?
There are two types of motivation one being positive and the other negative.
Positive motivation focuses on the positive things that happen when you take action.
Negative motivation focus on the negative backlash that will happen if you don’t take action.
Both can be effective in different ways. However, it is much easier to do something because you want to do it rather than doing something to avoid a particular outcome, like failing an exam if you don’t study.
If you don’t have a positive plan of action, using negative motivation can make you feel helpless and may even reduce your motivation.
3 Steps To True Motivation
All of us have some form of motivation and it varies from person to person. There are simple things that could motivate us like buying a really nice pair of shoes, shopping, or simply having some free time.
No matter what it is that motivates you there are certain things that keep us in this motivated state.
These are the key factors to motivation:-
Imagination
If you can think it, it can be done. Imagination is our limitless resource of information. It is what drives people to come up with new things to make life better for themselves.
It is also the starting point for motivation. Imagining how things will begin, the series of coordinated events and the desired outcomes will most likely fuel anyone’s intentions.
On the other hand, there is a twist to this. You should try not to think of negative or contradictory thoughts that may result negatively. Pessimistic imagination can only do so much as bring doubt. It cannot do you any good and would not motivate you at all.
On the other hand, a healthy dose of realizing consequences can be helpful. Just don’t bring it to the point that would compromise your entire motivational plot. Think positive and imagine greater things that will fire up your mood and motivate yourself.
Reenacting Your Imagination
The next step after your thinking of the perfect plot to motivate yourself is to live your imagination in the real world. It may sound a bit absurd but it is how things around us are brought to life.
Conceptualization is key to building and building is key to the completion of concepts. To make it simple, a thought will remain a thought if you don’t do anything to make it real. Once you decide to live your imagination then you will achieve your goals and your motivational plot has reached success.
Making Motivation a Habit
Until the very last breath of life that we breathe, there is the hope of achieving great things. Although you have reached some of your goals, that does not mean that your life is already complete and you do not have any need for motivation.
Keep in mind that without motivation, you wouldn’t get anywhere, except with some luck. Make motivation an everyday habit. Imagine, reimagine, and live your thoughts. Put this in a constant loop each day and you will find it easy to achieve a better life, reach new heights, and become a far better individual.
More Tips On How To Get Motivated To Make Your Dreams Come True
Set Goals For Yourself
When you set a goal for yourself, you make the decision to act in a way that will move you closer to your dream.
Goals give you a direction to focus on.
When setting goals do them in small doable steps. Try working backward if it helps and each day take that next step to get you closer to your end goal.
Break all your goals down into doable chunks, and you will gain confidence as each piece of the puzzle is completed.
This is a great tip on how to stay motivated to stay on course.
Make Sure You are Working Towards Something That Interests You
You are more likely to stay motivated if you are working towards something that you genuinely want to do or achieve, rather than what other people want you to achieve.
If you have tasks set out that you don’t enjoy, like at work, try and find something within that task that does motivate you by using negative motivation. For instance, I hate doing maths, but if I don’t get it right, I won’t be able to take up architecture.
Make Your Goal Public Knowledge
If you tell someone or write down your goal, you have essentially made a promise to keep your word and you are now accountable for keeping your goal moving forward because others know about what you are working towards.
If you can, join a group or class with like-minded people that you can share experiences with. Other people’s encouragement to keep going can be a big boost to your motivation, especially if your motivation begins to wane. For instance, if you were building an online business on your own like I am, you need a community of supportive people who are going through exactly what you are to reach out to. This is why I use Wealthy Affiliate to assist me as I forge ahead.
Give Yourself Rewards
Each time you complete a certain step or task that gets you closer to your goal, give yourself a well-deserved reward. This can be anything from an afternoon off with a good book to a spa treatment.
If you find you are really battling to stay on course and stay motivated, it may help to talk to somebody you trust. Sometimes it can be hard to achieve things all on your own, so having a good support network may help when you’ve taken on a big challenge.
