The penny dropped for me that my most successful affiliate campaigns come from programs with a great product, and I have established a relationship with either the company or the affiliate manager. 

    One thing I would like to add for newbies is that reading the terms and conditions of an affiliate program is a pain, but it is non-negotiable. I like to make notes on a spreadsheet. Can I stress how important it is to know the terms? Terms are a legally binding agreement that protects the product from potential disputes. They establish specific guidelines on acceptable promotional methods, use of trademarks, and restrictions on how affiliates can represent the brand, which helps avoid issues like false advertising or brand damage. You risk losing your affiliate status forever if you break the terms; it is often  one strike and you are out

    • Thanks for that Catherine. Yes you need to read your terms and conditions, as there is often some hidden clause that you could miss that could make or break the program for you. Some have extremely high amounts that you need to make before you can opt-out, so beware there.

    • I normally do a lot of research on the internet and look at how many complaints the company has and if the various programs payout. Luckily most of the well-known ones are legit.

      Niche selection can be tricky and I think you need to find the least competitive niche within a popular niche to ensure success. So this part you will need to dive and find a particular topic within a niche that you can cover.
