Well, a bit of both I would say.

- Sitting all day encourages the onset of various diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, various cancers, and premature death.
- Minimizes lower back pain and disk compression. But remember standing with bad posture can also cause back pain.
Keep in mind though that if you are used to sitting all day and you suddenly go to standing all day you could run the risk of developing back, leg or foot pain.
Rather ease into your standing up routing by doing 30 to 60 minutes a day to start off with and then gradually increasing it.
Also, some tasks are more accurately performed while seated. So even though a standing desk might not suit everyone, it is definitely a move in the right direction if you spend a lot of time sitting each day.
